Counting the final cost of this Pandemic

With this Corona-virus Topic turning to the cost of treatment and Governments itching to bring to an end their Lockdowns.

While Billions of Dollors/ Pounds are mentioned, it was interesting to hear this morning, that the normal cost to run the UK- NHS, is around £130 Billion per year.

I doubt that anyone can begin to put a price on lost production,  plus the temporary beneficial handouts etc etc, which Governments have been forced to hand out.

Not to mention, those who run small businesses which might never recover after the Pandemic's closures, while Larger Businesses are already starting to go into administration  in the UK.

( Likely bringing high unemployment figures back to the  Margaret Thatcher years ).

It would appear that it will take years to get the Worlds Eccomomies back on their feet again, unless a new Global approach starts to emerge, which I very much doubt will happen.

Just a thought.......as a new dawn approaches. :tiphat:

Economies will recover over time, it might take 3 years or it might take 10 years.  But after a while this will pass too.

And we're retired guys... does it really matter that much to most of us?

FWIW there are some moves towards opening up travel happening... companies are using disinfection systems for planes and some are asking for health status statments, others are requiring health certificates.  One is even doing tests before boarding...

To endure this one would certainly be desperate to travel, wonder if they are able to turn a profit.

Honestly, I'd feel safer travelling on a plane where everyone had been tested (acurately) than on a plane where they had not.

Having said that I suspect it's anti-body testing because that's the only tests that would give 10 minute results and they will only detect cases where people have been infected long enough to make anti-bodies and people who are recovered.  So it's going to miss pre-symptomatic cases and non-fever cases.

It's a start and I'd be willing to go through that to get back to SWMBO in the Philippines if it was an option.

The Uk has extended their lockdown for a further 3 weeks. another 800 plus coronavirus deaths recorded yesterday. 13,000 plus deaths now England and wales.

It's going to hurt their economy, already hurting from the brexit fiasco.

Possibly once the 15 min test is widely available, a person arrives 6-8 hours prior to departure. Tested, (price of test added to the tiket naturally :hystery:) secluded, passed, khek in, secluded, board fly.

Or a vaccine is widely available and we carry vaccine records with us like in the old days.
