Here is what I do or have done. It is the same reply I posted on a different forum recently asking the same question.Attend all expat functionsYour expat friends and Filipino friends will be having birthdays, weddings, graduation parties, fiesta parties and other celebrations. If you have a large enough group of friends, you will have more invites than you have time for. Besides that, in Cebu City, - there is ten pin bowling from 1pm every wednesday at the Gaisano Country Mall bowling centre. - Cebu Hash House harriers have a run/walk every saturday which starts at 3pm. Usually from the Sandtrap.Computer/InternetI am a member of a number of groups discussing life in the Philippines. If you let it, answering questions will take several hours out of your daily life, every day! I also have my website with videos, pictures, blog and links. This takes more time to keep updated. Also, I am in the middle of writing 3 books and not getting anywhere with any of themTravelThe Philippines has whale and dolphin watching, diving, snorkelling, historical sites, white sandy beaches, tarsier sanctuaries, butterfly sanctuaries, crocodile sanctuaries, chocolate hills, volcanoes, swimming underground in caves, waterfalls, hot springs, cold springs, an undergropund river, ancient rice terraces and more. It could take a lifetime to see it all! Expat bars and bikini barsI have favourite hangouts. When in Cebu City, I arrange a membership to the Sandtrap. I can then swim for free every day. If I was interested, I could also be playing tennis, playing pool or just relax and have dinner by the pool. I have other expat hangouts i like to go to and drink with friends such as Our Place and Sesame. I also have my favourite bikini bars such as Viking and Lonestar. FamilyIn the past, I have been involved with several building projects and several family businesses such as a piggery, multicab operating as a jeepney and a furniture business. BusinessAs a hobby or to supplement your income. I presently am involved in 3 small businesses. A very small karaoke bar, barbecue stand in the Jeepney terminal at night and pay day lending.WatersportsI don't enjoy fishing. I just use it as an excuse to drink. However, fishing could be a daily hobby that takes up a lot of time. Then there is also every other type of watersport from swimming to diving. You could build your own boat. You could buy a boat and do it up to go travelling in.Otherwise, I enjoy reading a good book, socialising with friends every day, watching movies at the cinema, especially the Imax Theatre in SM Mall and eating out often.Regards: Jim Sibbick

Free to enjoy life the way you like. That is a wonderful thing. I agree.:whistling:
Yes that's for sure, because ever since my wife and I retired in the Philippines, I now have a happy and contented disposition with a smile on my face every morning when I wake up! No more waking up to an alarm clock to go to work, just to pay the freak'n bills! We are now debt free, financially stable due to an adequate pension to live on, own our own home and we can do whatever we want within reason! We couldn't have done that in the U.S. especially with the way the economy is during this global recession! So, even though we live in a 3rd world country, life here really isn't too bad because of the low cost of living here and it all depends on one's source of income, attitude and is willing to adapt to whatever one has to adapt to! "Life is what we all make it to be"!

Hey guys,I figure I have another 10-15 years before I need a crutch for my middle leg.....he, he. Fortunately, I was able to resume one of my hobbies here in southern California. I've been playing tennis 4-5 times a week trying to perfect my backhand slice down the line. Ain't there yet but I think I'm giving these younger studs a run for their money. My other favorite playground is the ocean or any body of water where windsurfing and flying on a Hobie Cat 16 will satisfy my "need for speed". It's like a free ride off Mother Nature, especially during inclement weather conditions. And last but not least, with my wife by my side -- drinking MoJo's while watching the sunset as well as the sunrise.Another round please -- Jake

Let's not forget sabong (cockfighting). I don't go regularly, but another foreigner in our town goes everyday. His wife's family is a part owner of the place. Forget basketball or takraw, sabong is the national sport, hobby, and pastime of the Philippines.
