Slightly off topicIf they know so much about all these terrorist groups and their whereabouts why dont they eliminate them by airstrike. 1%20(72).gif

Yeah, it would be nice to vaporize these terrorist-kidnappers-rebels with a couple napalm runs. But you know, they live among the innocent and will not hesitate to hide behind their backs for human shield. US military has some 500-600 personnel station in southern Mindanao with sophisticated gear like real time satellite imaging, infra red and motion sensors. But they are strictly forbidden to take any combat operation -- only there for training purposes. The Philippines Air Force is a joke. Australia DOES NOT negotiate with kidnappers or terrorists. No monies will be paid so these bastards are out of luck if that is their intention. Federal police officers have been sent to investigate but that may be the extent of it.The chances of sending soldiers,SAS or other, to retrieve the guy would be IMO very slim at the moment.Things do not look good for this guy.
a few days ago in another part of the world, A rescue took place by the Us Navy Seal Team, perhaps JUST perhaps,,that this may happen to save this man,Who knows that the AUS special forces, or other Special forces teams may already be contemplating such a planMaybe this will be the way HOW the western governments will react when their citizens are Kidnapped in the 3rd world .. WHO KNOWS?Less than a year after a daring raid killed Osama bin Laden in Pakistan, another raid involving the same elite US Navy SEAL unit freed two aid workers being held hostage in Somalia by pirates in the type of covert, narrowly-targeted operation that is becoming more common for the US.here is a link to 1 of the news articleshttp://www.csmonitor.com/World/terrorism-security/2012/0126/SEAL-Team-6-Somalia-rescue-illustrates-new-US-military-strategy, Edited by Jollygoodfellow

I equate a lot of this to the "Hatfield & McCoy" type of mentality. For those that do not know the story about these two West Virginia families, have a quick read.http://www.wvculture...eldmccoy01.htmlAny of that mentality sound or look familiar with many parts of the Philippines? On the thought of Australian Special Forces mounting some sort of rescue operation, I tend to doubt it would happen in Philippines. If it did I do not think it would ever be mentioned or discussed. Somalia is a different country with not much of a government.

There is no way the Australian forces would be allowed do an operation there for many reasons the main being Philippines would lose face.

True, the RP government would NOT ALLOW a SOLO operation but a "JOINT " operation would look good, althou the CIC/head ops would have to a be RP military officer to keep the Sovereignty issue at hand,OR maybe this man would just walk away like "Rambo" and the AUS team just happens to be around to assist him in leaving,,(cough cough)

Short view thinking guys....... While a rescue may be just what the kidnapped guy needs, it does nothing to stop the problem. Someone needs to be the bad guy and start killing. Anyone remember 30+ years ago and the fact that Russians were not kidnapped? There is a reason for that. The Russians kill people! Hurt / kill an American and you get negotiators and money..... Kidnap a Russian, you get killed. What amazes me is that in todays electronic world, the satellites can actually look down and read the time off your watch. There is NO WAY that the US can't see the 'mother ships' leaving port and figure out who the pirates are off Somalia. Spend a week bombing those ships and the pirate issues resolve themselves..... Same for the Muslims down south. Offer a bounty of 10,000p per head to the locals and a few chopper runs and the light weight terrorists members will go back to farming rice leaving the real bad guys to hunt down.

You nailed it. The Australian SAS is an elite unit of the Australian Army and whilst they have worked closely with the NZ special forces,American special forces and U.S Navy SEAL teams, it has been on a "need to know" basis, that is basically they are left to do their work on their own. I can't imagine how they could be allowed to operate there without Philippine involvement.post-1362-0-08514700-1327747393_thumb.jp post-1362-0-36141700-1327747416_thumb.jp
