They go into the malls during brownouts, because it is a social event, not to keep cool.

And these "social events" practically double in size during brownouts. LOL

All those millions would rather have aircon and fans on if they could afford it.  Unfortunately for them PH is a poor country.  By spending money on products and services here, I help improve on that.

Some yes, but I am not convinced of that.  Each of the few live in gfs I have had will not use the AC or fan when they are alone in the room, and I encourage them to use at least the fan).  I am also acclimatizing.  I love to be cool but there are getting to be times when I enjoy the stillness of the air.  I often turn the fan off then and enjoy the natural weather.

One of my pet peeves is going into any open air restaurant and the waiter immediately brings me a fan and turns it on.  I HATE it.  And yet they have the preconceived notion that everyone would rather have aircons and fans if they could afford it.  When I tell them to turn off the fan they just don't get it.  Perhaps they will put it on lower but if I want it turned off I frequently have to get up and turn it off myself.  I usually search for a table that is not near a fixed fan and have, on one occasion, got up and walked out because they refused to turn off the fan.

Personally I think it would be easier to buy a generator.
Sure. I just talked about the alternative using the motorbike to reduce the seldom used gas/diesel engine problem from two to one,

yes. it is nothing to do, at all, with keeping cool. Many of them barely use a fan in their homes, at any time. You can give a girl's mama a fan as a present she will be pleased and say thanks but guess what. She will almost never use it. They are used to the temperatures.

during brownouts, suddenly there is no entertainment anywhere, apart from the mall. No videoke, or tv. Of course they are going to go to the mall.

There's another alternative for back up power besides a generator, its a Power Inverter. Here's one that produces 5,000 watts from 12 volts DC and costs about US $500. An inverter operates on a battery(s) so would eliminate the problem of not running a gas or Diesel engine often enough to prevent any problems. There's no sounds which would be very good.  A friend of mine bought a small gasoline generator last year which would run his computer, lights, a fan and TV but he said the TV was useless since the little generator was so loud that he couldn't hear the TV.  Does anyone have experience with these kinds of Inverters. What's the pros and cons?  I recently heard that the cost of marine batteries has gotten lower in recent years. And, they can be charged by the sun.

That seems like a good alternative for some applications but the question is, how long can it crank the 5000 watts from the battery(s)?  Of course you could leave your car idling to drive it but I am not sure how efficient or safe for your car that would be.

Hey guys (Stillpoint, Whippy),

This OP by Americano was asking advice on the best backup generators.  Unfortunately, this topic is quickly

digressing to sideline bickering of whether people are going to the malls for social events, relief from the hot

weather or whatever.  And now one of you has reported you have been misquoted and in spite of BossMan's

busy work schedule, he will try to fix it.  And all for what now?

Please guys, take TWO chill pills and call me in the morning and let's get back on track.  Notice -- I use the

politically correct word of PLEASE.

Respectfully -- Jake

the logic behind the objection and probably the eventual bickering, was that clearly some people think they are not worth the money to spend, and their utility, is questionable for some people. Not because they are tight or mean with money, but because they may not have enough utility for them, to justify the expense of buying one, and maintaining one.

Hey Americano,

Looks nice.....charge this baby up using a 12v car battery and you can provide 120VAC via multiple output outlets.

However, no matter what the specs are, especially endurance of a stable output or endurance of the battery itself

before it won't accept a charge anymore, those two factors will make or break you.  For example, if they are rated

for 1.5 hours on battery but realistically, I would give it only 30 minutes max.  Also look for charging cycles.  Some

batteries quit after so many cycles.

I have intimate knowledge of other brand UPS (uninterrupted power supply) as a bench tech working at Pechanga

Casino and Resort with nearly 4K slot machines.  Unfortunately, nearly 30% of them were not reliable of maintaining

power whenever the big diesel generators (housed in separate building) did not kick on automatically.  The UPS's

sole purpose is to maintain power while we verify the slot machine before we cash out the patrons during a jackpot.

The UPS (name brand APC) units were sent down to my shop (pallets full) to confirm their operation.  In spite many

of them were brand new, I red tag (rejected) many manufacturer's defective units.  Either the electronics did not

detect a blackout or it did, but the battery was poorly charged or no charge and therefore no 120vac output in

either case.

For our purpose, the question remains based on justification of buying a generator or a power converter (UPS).

If your work necessitates a stable desktop or laptop during brownouts, then buy a reliable unit to prevent critical

data you just downloaded from being lost.  In my case, my critical data would be my favorite porno movies...he, he.
