I trust the Philippine government to protect this information about as much as I trust my BiL's wife's mother not to spread gossip; She's queen of the Chismosa.

Too early for mental gymnastics for me! :hystery:

I'm not massively concerned about 'big brother' but I am worried about data security.  As Brett pointed out earlier Australia has recently been subjected to a number of massive data breaches which lead to sensitive user data being held to ransom effectively, and that's in a first world country where (I'm assuming) data security is taken at least somewhat more seriously.

Having passport data (in particular) as well as phone numbers and other details held in online storage is likely to attract criminal organizations and I try to minimize the data held online as a result.  That's not really possible in this situation though.

Im also heading to Thailand in 2 weeks but i thought you can only do the etravel thing up to 3 days before travel ?

I'm not departing in 2 weeks, i'm departing this weekend. The guidance is 3 days but it allows you to process your information 4 days before travel.

So before you wrote on a card all your details on a shaking plane and now its an intelligence tool. Yes the old one was on paper and the new one is modern.

The card on a plane was for arrival, not departure. This intel tool includes "departure" with many personal questions they have no business asking.  The IATF resolution mandates for arrivals only.

Perhaps it's a tool to flag over stayers? The data base will show a tourist arrival date, allow for extensions but flags a tourist who hasn't registered for departed after their 36 months.  Alot can be done with this database. I have no concern, nothing to hide. I just disagree with the requirement when the IATF mandates it's supposed to be for arrivals "only". Someone added departures with many personal questions when it wasn't mandated by the IATF.

On the website:

Why do I need to register to the eTravel?

Starting 01 September 2021, all incoming travelers to the Philippines are advised to use the eTravel registration system as mandated by IATF Resolution No. 135 dated 26 August 2021.

After the collapse of the Soviet Union, stories appeared about countries like Romania where information gathering was so pervasive, they had folders filled with information on nearly every citizen.  Warehouses were filled because the filing system then were on paper.  There was so much information it became useless.  Our modern computers do the same thing.  When the database is compromised millions of files are taken.  You would then need thousands of intelligence agents to sort through them.  Unless they are targeting specific individuals, the data is useless.  Our former healthcare provider Scripps Hospital was hacked.  So, what if unauthorized personnel learn how many times I had ingrown toenails removed.  (Correct Answer:  none)

This all started with the requirement ( Sir its protocol) during covid

Another 'conspiracy theory' that turns out to be dead accurate.

The covid scare required every government worldwide to hire thousands of people and create agencies to watch, monitor, control, make rules, and report stuff. Those people are still on the payroll, so until those new agencies are closed down expect more intrusive edicts to be issued. Now They are just trying to justify their existence and keep their jobs. Early on Governments didn't want to appear impotent so they made lots of knee jerk decisions, Easy to say in Hindsight that most were wrong decisions. Lets shut them down now, it's Over!

Yet another one. This all started with the requirement ( Sir its protocol) during covid for the providing pf vast amounts of details.. and the result was spamming /scanningto the max. That resulted in the SIM Registration which is yet another intrusive personal detail grab.

Re that as an SRRV holder I also applied for their nonsense travel pass that immigration has never ever checked. ... result. .site is deemed by firefox to be dangerous, do not proceed. Sent a screenshot of that to PRA.

Please keep us posted on this as many SRRV holders will be interested.
