I'll give you an answer in the form of a question.  Is New York City, Chicago or Washington D.C. dangerous places?  Just like anywhere if you treat people with respect, don't attract attention to yourself and know your surroundings you'll be fine.

I have not seen reports of Filipinos going into schools with weapons and murdering scores of school children.  If I had to choose between the US and Philippines, I would choose the Philippines.  Been there many times, was told how dangerous it is, have never felt threatened or intimidated.

Yes if you are involved in drugs.

Yes if you hang out where the terrorist groups are looking for victims

Yes if you are not 'street smart' around groups of drunks, drug users, or other gangs.

Yes if you are not 'street smart' about where to invest your money.

Yes if you wander around with a lot of 'bling'

Other than that, no.

In the area of road safety and your chances of surviving an accident in a remote area, I would say it is quite dangerous as compared to other countries. There are no paramedics and ambulance services are primitive at best.

I think I could easily get bashed, robbed, mugged or killed, in any of the above mentioned cities. It could also happen here but less likely. Filipino's are actually afraid of crimes against foreigners, where the police are more proactive and the punishments are more severe.

I agree what the other guys said + atleast the inbreeds here aren't carrying assault rifles to go shopping ??.

Sorry guys, but I just cannot understand how anyone would think it's safer in the Philippines than the US.   Nearly every expat I know here has been a victim of crime at some point, whereas very few of my friends in the US are ever affected.  That's anecdotal, but the crime rate comparison speaks for itself, even if you don't consider the gross under reporting here in the Phils.  Seems like many expats here are having the times of their lives, drinking the koolaid, floating on a cloud, and living in a delusional world.  Kind of like Disneyland for adults.....a whole lot of fun, but rarely based in reality.  

 

PS: school shooting are horrible, but they are not statistically significant.  A kid has a much greater chance being struck by lightning.
