I appreciate those expected replies from Westerners not understanding the sense of unity and pride that Filipinos (and Asia in general) have, that no longer exists in the West. Very different cultures.

Pride in .........?     As for sense of unity,  I guess that is why nobody selfishly takes advantage via corruption  :-)

I think the size of the "gap" depends a lot on where you live.  Province, small town, big city, etc.

Depends on what we're measuring, the people are entirely different, even comparing city to city.

I learned something new about the education system here. I have noticed students wearing PE uniforms for many years but last week I learned they don't actually do any PE. They just wear the PE uniform once a week. I asked what kind of silly theater this was and got the 'always been that way' answer. The PE uniform is just an added expense.

I assume you are referring to public schools?  If you look into it, you will probably find that they cover PE in the MAPEH studies book.  It's book PE!

My 7 and 9 year old are in a private school.  They play some outdoor games if the weather is good.  Most of the real physical activities are after school and there are extra fees for most, as they hire outside coaches.  They have dance, gymnastics and Taikwondo.

My 9 year old just started dance last week and tomorrow she starts girl scouts.  She takes rhythmic gymnastics outside of school. My 7 year old takes Taekwondo outside of school,  Her first tournament is Saturday.  And she also starts girl scouts tomorrow.

No this is a private school but I found out they start doing actual PE at grade 7, but they will be in another school by then. At this point the lack of actual PE doesn't bother me much and the uniform requirement seems typical of the veneer culture

I swear they are listening in ways we don't know!  I read your post, went to You Tube, and this was right there.

My son's PE class is, as you say, included in the MAPEH subject but it's not book PE - at least not totally as there is a mix of theory and practice.  Luckily, the gym hall is covered so they can do their classes regardless of the weather.

Also, they do have after-school clubs - each student has to do one and there are others which are optional.  My son does book club as his compulsory and football (soccer) voluntarily but both are free even they hire a coach for the football.  And, the school provide a free football kit for the players.
