Popular Post Tukaram (Tim) Posted January 27, 2015 Popular Post Posted January 27, 2015 (edited) One thing to remember is that time moves differently over here. Back in the US we would use our day off to run lots of errands. Here the goal is complete one thing a day - and that does not always happen. Today was the exception. Today we were going to get a cell phone repaired, make a payment on the sister-in-laws TV, get money at Cebuana from sister-in-law for said TV, buy a birthday present, and pay our Globe internet bill. My wife made the list... So we finally get out of the house about noon (she slept until 10 AM. I got up at 7). We go to get money at Cebuana... and the ID card they gave her, that she has used before, is not enough for some reason. Now they want a picture ID, like voters card. So no money. We go to appliance store, and they are closed for lunch. So we buy the birthday present while waiting for the store to reopen. An hour later they come back and we pay the TV payment... we will pick up the money to pay ourselves back tomorrow. We drop off the phone for repair and eat lunch. Go back and they cannot repair it (unusual, really). As we head to SM to pay our globe bill I run into a friend at an outdoor bar. I sit with Joe (probably not his real name) while my wife goes to pay Globe. 2 hours later I text her and she does not reply (texting has been sporadic for days here). I get the reply hours later ha ha. But she finally got the bill paid - the computers were down so you could only pay if you brought a copy of your bill - which I would not have. I also would not have waited in line for 2 hours! So a rather productive day. 3 out 5 things accomplished! A new record. And it only took 6 hours. But I got to drink for 2 hours of it so all is well. Who has time to be bored? :tiphat: ~Edit~ let's see if I can find my old Navy pic.... Edited January 27, 2015 by Tukaram (Tim)
Thomas Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 Was just thinking what all you guys do to keep your mind active and prevent boredom sitting around in hammocks whilst enjoying your new live in PI? I have never understood how people can be out of fun/interesting things to do. Many years ago - BEFORE Internet - I counted how much time I would need ONLY to do my hobbies. 24/7 was NOT enough... (read and write books, sail (small boat so easy), table tennis, billiard, genealogy, canoe, play music instruments, coaching some youth team in some team sport... At least in startup living in Phils there will be EXTRA to do e g study culture and try to learn the language.., I mean BESIDE spend time with new wife :mocking: After my father retired he said he don't understand how he managed to do everything before he retired. (Beside being with grandchildren, he need much time compeeting in quiz and boule contest at regional level, perform playing guitar, teach dogs...) I like the line by Ben Johnson (I think), "If you tire of London, you are tired of life." Well. I'm tired of ALL big cities :mocking:and I'm surely NOT tired of life.
Popular Post i am bob Posted January 27, 2015 Popular Post Posted January 27, 2015 Sometimes retiring can change your life in ways you won't believe! My father had retired a few short years before and that was when we found out about his heart condition. Anyway, one year almost my entire family shouted up to visit... Kind of unusual as it's a good 2 day drive each way... My parents, sisters and brothers, husband and wives, and all the kids... My dad seemed strong... Healthy... So imagine my surprise when my parents came to visit 1 1/2 years later - just before Christmas! My dad had lost about 60 pounds and couldn't get out of my sports car without help... (He was in his early mid-70s then) I asked my mom what was wrong with my father but she kept saying "nothing"! February rolls around and i decide to drive back to Niagara to see the folks... When i got there? Dad was even lighter in weight... Once again i asked and one again i got the answer that nothing was wrong... Fine! I went back to Nova Scotia, quit my job and moved back in with my parents! And then found out that my father was playing 36 holes or more a day right into January that year! He was actually in better shape than i was! True story but it does come with a warning label: Let your kids know you're enjoying your retirement BEFORE they move back in!!! :D
Popular Post Kuya John Posted January 27, 2015 Popular Post Posted January 27, 2015 (edited) The great thing going to work each day, is you don't have to worry about...... Washing the dishes Mending the fence Fixing the porch door Painting the lounge Walking the dog Forcing a few Sml's down Checking the dinner is not burning Putting the cat out.......... Yes, I sure miss work, life can be so mundane, that's why I retired and got married again, I needed something to do!
