Combat veterans don't get the respect that they deserve. Isn't that a fact! The people who send out young men and women to do their fighting for them always seem to spout gratitude but their actions, or rather lack of, show that it is all empty rhetoric.

Maybe they don't really believe they are in danger, maybe some people are just more decisive than others? I wonder how many would go back to their home countries for treatment if they had an expensive life threatening illness? Many would tell you they would be gone like a shot if they were physically capable of travelling. I'm sure many would and that is their perogative. Personally speaking, I would use the health providers here and if that didn't work out well, so be it. I have always lived by the adage "if your number's on the ticket"

Same with expensive "end of life treatments" that keep you alive, possibly miserably for another year for $300k USD or more. I'd rather the money put kids through college and I don't mean the doctors kids.

Not because i feel unsafe, but because i found out quite quickly that Philippines isn't for me. A few posts after that one you said the same. Why in hell are you still here, if you dont like the people and the country???? I've posted several times that I'm on the way out. I would prefer to stay, if the country was headed in a different direction. It really makes me sad to see otherwise intelligent expats completely disregarding the dangers here, and perpetuating that delusional nonsense to other potential newcomers. How anyone can positively spin the news lately is beyond me. Communists are now allowed to kill anyone they deem as a drug addict? I really cannot converse with a forum that doesn't see the extreme danger in that. Good luck to you all...

This confuses me. You are from the US, correct? Are you going back to the US? Do you think it is safe there? What would you think of someone standing on a street corner in the USA with a sign that says: The End is Near! And yet there are hundreds of people murdered there every day. I suggest it is better to look at the danger (here or in the US or anywhere you want to be), admit that it is there, and then do what you plan to do anyway with caution.

What do you want to see? Do you want everyone to agree it's terrible dangerous and you will be dead in a week? If it was that bad you would be either dead or on the plane ages ago.

I really cannot converse with a forum that doesn't see the extreme danger in that. Good luck to you all... Prefer to wait and see on that. Police have been exterminating people for years. Most of us not involved in the drug trade and as for the NPA, I guess it depends on where you live. Never seen an NPA is 11 years. Bottom line for me is where you choose to live. I live in a remote province where the lights go out by 9 PM or earlier and those so inclined sit around having drinks about half the night. Not all night, because they are farmers, they do have to work in the AM. That might not stop them but in general. I think Larry 45 you posted quite a while ago that you had made the decision to get up and get out of here. I would say that's 6 months ago, or more, and notably you have not left yet. And you have not relocated, a logical step. At the time I thought your reasons were deeper, more personal, and you did not give specific details. As for the direction of the country, another pertinent and fascinating subject. A subject that could have been raised at any time over the last 50 years. I watch the nightly news and don't see any major directional change yet. If so, with the now legalized US presence, could things improve? As they say, you can run, but you cannot hide. I think I will stick it out.
