Each to our own on this BUt the OP will not be getting what he desires in Dumaguete, many have come with the same thoughts as the OP only to Die alone because the care was just not there from those that had been paid. if you marry the right lady and are on good terms with the family there should be no worries. Seems that our man just wants it all cheap and it is not going to be Now for me Cos I have said my bit 4

Home recovery is going to cost 3 Caregivers 1 has to be a Registered nurse for Drug drawing and Injections that is 10.800 per week + Meds. Then the Docs you see it is not as cheap as we would wish it to be. Cheaper than Manila Yes but the OP doesn't want this so Based on Actuals and not what the Website may tell you. It is going to cost a fair bit to be too ill for too long

It is going to cost a fair bit to be too ill for too long For the vast majority of us rich ex-pats () those numbers are frightening, and it would take some size of nest-egg to fund for any length of time. The option of returning to our home country may be the only viable one. It's something to think about.

You need permission and pay a tax to travel from the country. You have no citizen rights. You status is reliant on your wife. Now compare that to the UK or the USA. Firstly you do have rights here secondly you are not comparing retirement with immigration in each country. Can you retire anywhere without funds? Here you can retire on very little as we most of us know. As for reliant on your wife I have experienced different here. Probably not written down anywhere but I have seen the paperwork. Please don`t take me wrong but my experience does not go along with your statement.

Yeah but I think the OP is not thinking that way, I am thinking that his investigations are on what is said on websites and not the actuality YET he tells us that he has children that hold good positions in the US and for me, That is where he should be looking for that "Dream" he has. The Philippines were once a good safe cheap bet but I fear, the more they grow out of this 3rd world situation and gear up to western standards that we are always talking and wishing for this has changed and this particular issue is at the top of us oldies list Such is my take on things
fillipino_wannabe Posted March 9, 2019 Posted March 9, 2019 (edited) I doubt you'll find anywhere as cheap as the Philippines. Somewhere like Greece is a nice place and would be a lot cheaper than the US though. Or any Eastern European country. Just a bunch of retired celebrities trying out different Countries, however well worth watching for the Scenery alone. That said, my wife has expressed a desire to visit Vietnam for the beauty of the countryside and "El Nido" type coastlines as part of our next major trip before heading home to Philippines.......we will see if I'm up for it. Piece of completely usless information here My ex was the Accountant for the Marigold hotel films , she specialises in tax breaks fir the film industry
bastonjock Posted March 9, 2019 Posted March 9, 2019 One thing that came to mind with regard to care homes in the Philippines full of " rich foreigners " is that it would make an inviting target for the bad guys Ive seen how the gfs familly support her lolo , lolo has had a stroke and this is a family who are mostly professionals such as teachers , one cousin has the full time job of looking after lolo and a young man , who has learning difficulties The extended family all chip in to pay the cousin , i witnesses them handing lolo 1000 peso bills as they left the house . In many ways the system in the Philippines is like it used to be in Scotland and still is in some places, our society is continuing to change We spend our lives acumulating wealth only to have to spend it on medical problems later on in life , makes you question the hamster wheel lives that a lor if us have lead , perhaps turning the clock back to a more intransigent society will hold some answers My mum lived in the same house for 44 years , the neighbours became friends , when my mum became very infirm ,the neighbours took it in turns to visit her each day to ensure that she had eaten, on top of that we had council funded carers going in 3 times per day. A new neigbour moved in next door about 10 years ago , a guy with a reputation for violence , he woukd often jump over the fence and tidy up my mums garden Ive told my son that if i end up with an incapacitating illness to not waste peoples time and my money Put me on a plane to veritas ( assisted suicide clinic )
Gary D Posted March 9, 2019 Posted March 9, 2019 The family will look after you whilst the money lasts, once all the money has gone they have no option other than leave you to die.Although family will look after each other life can be very brutal in countries like the Philippines where there is no social care. I wasn't taking about cost just all the continuing BS. I can afford to retire in the UK but as my wife has spent 25 years of her life in the UK it's now my turn to spend time in the Philippines. When my wife came to the UK she obviously went through the immigration process but that is it, she can come and go as she pleases, no reporting or ECC etc. No on going BS, she's treated no differently to anyone else.
